Who's who in Cabarete

The potential of willpower

Andreas Lagopoulos - Uncharted Kite SessionsBefore his life changed, Andreas Lagopoulos was a carpenter making good money creating furniture in Canada. He was also a kite surfer who loved going on kite trips. Then one day he woke up in the hospital paralyzed from the waist down, and was told he had about ten days to live if he did not agree to letting doctors remove the bone infection he had in his spine. Now he has moved to Cabarete, organizes adventure travel kite clinics, and is back into kitesurfing. This is the story of someone with immensely strong willpower who defied doctors and now lives life on his own terms.

Sam Chilvers doing her stuff at La Boca, CabareteDividing her time as an accomplished painter as well as a pro kiter, Samantha “Sam” Chilvers has been doing really good for herself in Cabarete. Lovely Spirits of Cabarete - Christopher

Barrio Blanco, Community, Cabarete, Dominican Republic, Providing OpportunityLike many places around the world there are children in Cabarete, who were born or raised under less privileged circumstances. For many of these children it is not a given to have a solid roof ensuring a dry night's sleep or even to have food provided every day. That used to be the tough reality for this little guy; Meet 10-year-old Christopher.

Christopher lives with his father in the poor village Barrio Blanco in Cabarete. Only a few years back Barrio Blanco was a squatter village that most people feared to visit or even talk about. A place where Christopher and his friends knew only of poverty, struggles and fear. Fear of crime, diseases and not finding enough food. No matter how hard life is, amazing things can happen.
