Question: What is Electric Stimulation Acupuncture?
Traditional Acupuncture body pointsSharon: E-Stim Acupuncture is similar to traditional acupuncture in the way that it uses the same points on the body, where the needles are first inserted through the skin. It differs in the sense that the needles are then being attached to a device, which generates small electric pulses. The gentle and consisting pulses stimulate the muscle tissue and thereby help the muscles to relax and also increases blood circulation.

Q: What are the benefits from E-Stim Acupuncture compared to the traditional acupuncture method?
S: In traditional acupuncture the needles are manipulated by hand, using different techniques. Because it is done manually those techniques can cause pain. With the development of the E-Stim Acupuncture, the practitioner is fully able to control and adjust the frequency and intensity of the pulse being delivered, without causing any pain.

Q: For what types of conditions do you prefer the E-Stim Acupuncture over the traditional acupuncture?

S:
The E-Stim Acupuncture works very well for conditions of hypertonic muscles or muscle spasms. Sports injuries, overdeveloped muscles and tight muscles in general benefit a lot from this treatment.

traditional Acupuncture needlesWhen the body experiences an issue it will try to make up for that weakness by compensating using other muscles. Yet, that often just creates problems with other muscles taking over. When muscles are too tight they do not get a good blood flow, which makes them less flexible and can create pain. Hypertonic muscles can in fact pull bones out of place, which is an issue I often see causing neck and back problems. This is a problem many kiteboard riders experience.

E-Stim Acupuncture helps the muscles to relax, increase the blood flow and thereby helps the muscles to recover by improving the healing process.

In addition, I want to emphasize the importance of getting enough natural magnesium through nutrition. Magnesium is a natural muscles relaxer and it is essential for the muscles to recover. Drinking coconut water is a great way to replenish lost magnesium.

Q: What are the contra indications of E-Stim Acupuncture?
S: I have not heard of a situation where E-Stim Acupuncture has caused any problems. However, as a precaution, I do not treat pregnant women or people with pacemakers.

E-Stim AcupunctureQ: What is the most common reaction when you introduce the E-Stim Acupuncture treatment to your clients?
S: My clients are instantly curious to know what the treatment feels like. They are mostly concerned if they will experience a feeling of electricity going through their body.

Q: So what does the E-Stim acupuncture feel like? And what is the level of pain?
S: There is no pain involved. The E-Stim Acupuncture creates a gentle pulsing or tapping sensation. My clients find it very comfortable and relaxing and it is not unusual for them to fall asleep.

Q: Is there anything that people should be aware of before trying out an E-Stim Acupuncture treatment?
S: Yes, just make sure that you have had a meal and that you are not over tired or have a fever.
